Emma Katherine- May 2012

As we await the arrival of your little brother or sister I thought it would be good to write a little about you in a different way than through the posts.

You are the light of our lives. Soon there will be another light and you might feel less special than before. But know this, we will always love you. And we will always love you both the same.

You have always been independent yet cautious. You know what you want and you make it happen. From as early as the day you were born this was true.  You were born the day after the PA told me it would be awhile before anything happened; I think you were ready regardless of what anyone said. In new situations you spend a lot of time watching before getting involved. This could be at the park when there are new faces there or at a birthday party.  And you always look around to find me (or Daddy) once you join in; you "check in" with us all on your own.

You are curious and interested in many different things. For awhile, you did ask why a lot.  And you ask other questions, too. On a recent hike in MN with the family there, you stopped and examined some fungus, using a stick to touch it and look under it.  Everyone was so impressed with your intense interest and reverence. Maybe Wonder Bugs had something to do with this, but that's just my personal, selfish hope.

You are sweet and loving. There is nothing better than your hugs and snuggles. I call you my snuggle bear. Daddy says he loves your hugs.  You enjoy making pictures for us and wrapping up presents for us randomly. You practice the art of giving regularly.

You overheard Aunt Darcy telling me that she thought you are going to have a hard time with the new baby since it has been just the three of us for 4 years. you responded by saying that you are going to be helpful. Since then you talk about being a good big sister and helping. Your baby dolls, like Baby Katie, have been good practice. You listen on the monitor (the telephone base) for her cries when she is napping. You change her clothes and diaper and talk sweetly to her at all times.  I know you will be an amazing big sister! You are an amazing little girl!
